Dear Group,

In a previous letter, I had reported that I had learned that in the Catholic Church one does not get saved in the Protestant way of thinking because it is God that is looking for us and not us looking for God. Then I read this:

"The perfection of spiritual strength consists properly in a man's daring to confess his faith of Christ in the presence of anyone at all,and in a man'snot failing to do so from fear or confusion, for strength drives out inordinate fear. Therefore, ...

Explaining closed communion to non-Catholics

My oldest son is getting ready for First Communion this Sunday. I believe my family will be attending. The question is how do I explain closed communion to my family without being offensive. I realize they may be offended either way (as I was before I converted) but how do I present it in a way that helps them understand and is the least offensive? What have been your experiences with this issue?

:affraid: , , :affraid: .

I have to go and make my first confession this weekend. Out of all of the Catholic beliefs, traditions, sacraments this is the one that gets to me. I don't have an issue with the concept, I just have an issue with ME having to do it.

I am not the biggest sharer of my problems, I tend to keep things in and deal with them on my own and in prayer. That is just me. I rarely burden even my husband with my problems, again that is just the way I am.

So here is my ...

Older Children receiving sacraments

I've heard it said that "any person over Catechetical age or the Age of Reason, is to be Catechized in the RCIA process for one full liturgical year" and that they may, at that time, receive Baptism (if necessary), First Communion and Confirmation at Easter just like the adults.

This doesn't seem quite fair. If a child is a "convert" with his parents, he can receive Confirmation right away? Why would he not have to wait for Confirmation in his teen years like the life-long ...

Can a priest conduct the sacrament of marriage in a parish he isn't assigned to? For example, a couple plans to marry in one parish but wants the priest of another parish to do the ceremony... Is this permitted?

Eastern Rite Divine Liturgy

As I've been learning more about all aspects of our Church, in learning about the Eastern Rites I've been interested in attending Divine Liturgy to further my knowledge etc. My question is, are the Liturgies in English (in the U.S.) or do they use the native language of where their Rite originates? Would be nice to know this ahead of time.
