St. Patrick's Day

Post by Mary1973 on Fri Mar 14, 2008 4:41 pm

Is anyone celebrating St. Patrick's Day on March 17? As you know, we do not have a liturgical celebration because it falls on the Monday of Holy Week. I am just skipping it this year. Tomorrow is the Feast of St. Joseph here in the U.S. I think St. Patrick himself would want us to put Holy Week ahead of him.

I usually don't celebrate it the way many do in this country. I am actually Irish so I have no desire for green beer or any of that...and I don't much like corned beef and cabbage. I don't think so
Naturally, with it being during Holy Week, that will be my main focus. Hasn't even been mentioned at my parish, and we usually have a St. Patty's dinner.

Maybe you just never had it made well. And one forgets that corned beef used to be a cheap cut of meat which is why poor people ate it. Now it is "haute cuisine".

I must say that I enjoyed my Corn Beef and Cabbage tonight! The cabbage being the best part. I agree that what used to be cheap cut of meat is no longer. I am picky and hunt around for the brand that has the spices all through and not just a spice package that you add before your cook. The one with the package of spice is not nearly as good as the other.

I hope all of you had a great St Patrick’s Day!

Nope. We "celebrated it" i.e. said special prayers to St. Patrick, on March 15th. The Church determines the date of his feast, and this year, it was moved, therefore, that is when we celebrated.

I wouldn't dream of making a special day for St. Patrick on Holy Monday. I am concentrating solely on what is happening this week.

I don't like corned beef either, but you know, it's not really Irish.
Boiled bacon is the Irish dish.
(I don't eat that either.)

Ahhhhhhhh, I'm no fun at all!
