Sacrament of Marriage

Post by Amber on Mon Feb 25, 2008 9:35 am

Can a priest conduct the sacrament of marriage in a parish he isn't assigned to? For example, a couple plans to marry in one parish but wants the priest of another parish to do the ceremony... Is this permitted?

With permission, yes. My wife and I had our ceremony at my parish, but with a priest who had taught me in high school. I do know that the pastor has to give permission (which means he could say no).

In addition to that, a priest even from another diocese can, with I believe the Bishop's permission, celebrate a wedding in a parish not of his diocese. My cousin from the Omaha area came to Reno and co-celebrated my brother's wedding a few years ago.
